Speech and Language Therapy
At ReachUp children with communication needs are given a thorough assessment that is conducted using the latest assessment tools. After consultation with the family and other members of the intervention team, a therapy program is designed that is evidence-based and tailor made for each individual child’s needs, to best improve function and participation.
Language is the foundation of thought and communication. It gives us the tools to share our feelings, thoughts and information as well as receive assistance from others and participate in play and social life. Speech pathology is the identification and treatment of communication difficulties which affect a person’s ability to join in everyday life and learn at school. This can be spoken language or written communication. Some of the areas that a speech pathologist would address are:
2) Phonemic awareness and literacy: children who have reading and spelling difficulties possibly due to poor sound awareness e.g. analysis and synthesis and discrimination.
3) Auditory Processing: Ability to follow instructions, listen in noisy environments and remember information given verbally
4) Fluency: (Stuttering)
5) Written language
